These perennials are grass-like and grow in large clumps of arching, sword-shaped leaves. The flowers are lilylike above leafless stems that stand above lower foliage. Blooms usually begin in midspring.

These perennials are from wet, mountainous areas of tropical America. Most all Fuchsias bloom from late spring to the first frost. They have showy-blossomed blooms, mostly tubulars, which attract hummingbirds. They grow best in cool-summer areas, such as western Washington State and Oregon.
