Loomis Historic Pictures - One
James Loomis Saloon - Among beautiful oak trees, the saloon was the entire town of Loomis for awhile.
It was located near the railroad track in 1869. James Loomis was saloon keeper, railroad agent, express
agent and postmaster. There was also a barber shop, eating place and a general store in the same
building. Today this same location is part of Taylor Road and where the Saving Corner was.
The Loomis Water Tank (Around 1881 or 1882) - It was located behind what is now the US
Bank. James Loomis is the elderly man with the beard, wearing a white shirt. To his left
is the blacksmith, Claude Hoffman and his daughter, Maggie. The others in this picture are unknown.
Loomis Street Scene, before 1915
The Old Loomis Grammar School
Facing north on US 40, which was Olive Street and Pine Street in the early 1930s -
Today Olive is now Taylor road and Pine is Horseshoe Bar Road. Notice how Taylor was straightened out
and the "Super Service Garage" building was moved.
